How usage charges are billed
Company approval usage charges are billed through Shopify App Pricing so a few things are worth knowing:
Monthly billing: Usage charges are aggregated and billed on a monthly basis as part of your regular Shopify invoice. Note that since the app's billing cycle may not align with your normal Shopify billing cycle, usage charges may be split across multiple invoices.
No Shopify-side spending cap: Shopify App Pricing doesn't include a native usage cap or limit. Once you're subscribed, usage charges accrue automatically based on your approval volume. Shopify itself won't stop billing at any particular threshold, however the Onboard app provides its own in-app spending limit (see below).
Plan upgrades: If you upgrade to a higher plan mid-cycle, the change and any prorated difference are handled as part of your billing.
Plan downgrades: If you downgrade to a lower plan, the change is deferred and takes effect at the end of your current billing cycle rather than immediately.
Setting your own monthly spending limit (optional)
Since Shopify's billing system doesn't provide a way to limit usage, Onboard lets you set an optional monthly spending limit for usage charges directly in the app. This gives you control over the maximum you can be billed each cycle.
Once your usage charges for the month reach your custom limit, Onboard will automatically stop processing further approvals until the limit is raised or the next billing cycle begins.
All applications received after the limit is reached will still be submitted in a pending state so that they can be approved when the limit is increased or reset.
You can view, raise, or lower your spending limit at any time from the app's billing settings, changes take effect immediately.
We recommend setting your limit with some buffer above your expected monthly approval volume so pending B2B applications aren't unexpectedly held up.
