How to install the application form on your online store

Add the Onboard B2B application form to a page on your online store so businesses can apply for wholesale access without an account.

Let businesses apply for wholesale access directly from your Shopify storefront. You add the B2B Application Form section to a page in your theme, then link customers to that page.

Storefront or customer account? Onboard B2B also offers an application form inside the Customer Account Portal. The two are separate. This article covers the storefront (online store) form, which works for visitors who don't have an account yet.

Before you start

  • Onboard B2B is installed on your store.

  • Your application form is set up under Forms and blocks > Company application form. It always includes a required Contact email field, because an application with no email can't be approved.

  • You have a theme that supports sections on pages (every Online Store 2.0 theme does).

Step 1: Open the installation page

  1. In your Shopify admin, open Onboard B2B.

  2. Go to Installation and select the Company application and management tab.

  3. Find the Online store activation section at the top. The Storefront application form badge shows Not live until you've added the section.

Step 2: Launch the theme editor

  1. Under Choose a theme, select the theme you want. Your published theme is marked (live). Pick an unpublished theme to try the form out first.

  2. Click Launch editor.

The theme editor opens on the Default page template with a new Apps section that contains the B2B Application Form block.

Step 3: Choose where the form lives

By default the form is added to the standard page template, which every page using that template shares. If you only want it on one page, create a dedicated template first:

  1. At the top of the editor, open the template picker.

  2. Choose Create template, name it (for example, apply), and base it on Default page.

  3. Make sure the B2B Application Form block is in that template. If it isn't, click Add section > Apps > B2B Application Form.

You can also place the form on any other page template (for example a landing page) by adding the block there.

Step 4: Adjust the look

Select the B2B Application Form block and set Color scheme:

Option

What it does

Light

Uses the form's own light colors. This is the default.

Dark

Uses the form's own dark colors.

Inherit from theme

Adds no colors of its own, so your theme's styles apply.

Click Save.

Step 5: Create the page and assign the template

  1. In Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Pages > Add page.

  2. Give it a title, such as "Apply for wholesale".

  3. Under Theme template, choose the template from Step 3.

  4. Set the page to Visible and save.

Step 6: Link customers to the page

Add the page URL (for example yourstore.com/pages/apply-for-wholesale) to your navigation menu, footer, a banner, emails or popups.

Step 7: Confirm it's live

Go back to Installation > Company application and management and refresh. The badge should read Active, with a line such as "The form is on templates/page.apply.json in this theme." Then open the page in a private browser window and check that the form loads.

What visitors see

Visitor

What they see

Not signed in, or signed in with no application

The application form.

Just submitted an application

A confirmation message.

Not signed in, and their email already has a customer account

"Log in to finish your application." After they sign in, the answers they typed are filled back in.

Application pending

An "Awaiting review" message instead of the form.

Application rejected (revision requested)

An "Application rejected" message, and they can revise and resubmit the form.

Application closed

An "Application closed" message instead of the form.

Application approved

A message that their application has been approved.

Already a company contact

A message that they're already a member of a company.

Spam protection

reCAPTCHA spam protection is on by default. It checks applications from visitors who aren't signed in. You can turn it off under App settings and tools > Spam protection. It only works on your myshopify domain and your primary domain. If you serve the storefront on another domain (for example a second market domain), visitors there will see a reCAPTCHA error and can't submit. Turn spam protection off in that case.

What to do

The badge still says Not live.

The section may be on a different theme than the one selected in Choose a theme, or it may be disabled. Check that the section is enabled in the theme editor and that the theme is saved.

The page says a section "belongs to a different installation of this app."

Remove the B2B Application Form section from the theme and add it again with Launch editor.

The page says it can't check every template.

Your theme has more templates than can be checked at once, so the form may also be live on a page that isn't listed. Check in the theme editor.

"There is a problem with the app block" in the theme editor.

Close the editor and use Launch editor from Onboard B2B instead of adding the block by hand. Contact support if it continues.

Visitors see a reCAPTCHA error.

See Spam protection above.

Still stuck? Contact support from inside the app and include your store URL and the page where the form should appear.
